The Shire is keen to make sure that all properties which have pools or spas in the Shire, including those in town and on farms, are safe for the children living there as well as for children of visitors to those properties.
All swimming pools and spas which are deeper than 300mm are required to have a fence or barrier which complies with Australian Standard 1926.1, to restrict access by young children to the swimming pool or spa and its immediate surrounds and to prevent potential injury or fatality.
The Shire has a legislated responsibility to conduct regular inspections of all those barriers or fences and this work will be conducted in the near future. As part of those inspections, staff can provide free onsite education to owners on the Australian Standard and help to identify any issues which may require attention.
If you have a pool or spa, please contact the Shire to organise a suitable time for an officer to visit your property to do the inspection. Also, please feel free to ask staff to provide you with a Safety Checklist so that you can do your own check of your property against the requirements.
These inspections will be conducted in the upcoming months and are a simple way of helping us to help ensure that your pool or spa is compliant and safe.
